Client Case Study: Robert Own Communities (ROC)

Description of the client and their business

Robert Owen Communities (ROC) is a charity that works with people with learning disabilities, and their circles of support, across Devon and Cornwall. ROC has been operating for over 20 years. It offers a range of services including residential care, specialist and independent supported living, health and creative activities, social activities and work & learning opportunities.

ROC exists to help as many people as possible throughout the UK, who have learning or similar disabilities, to be who they want to be. They believe all people with a learning disability should have the chance and the support to be able to do what they want to do. ROC works towards making this happen.

What were they looking for?

Roc Active and their associates were looking for courses which would promote independent living skills, personal development and social interaction skills for their service users.

What we did

We met with Roc Active to discuss their needs and to look in detail at the needs of the individuals who would be involved. We identified that a personal and social development course delivered in the context of the outdoors would be suitable and would meet the needs of all those concerned, as it would give plenty of opportunity to work together and make progress, and it would give the learners a recognised national qualification on completion.

What was achieved

100% success, lots of thank you cards and letters received from learners.

Comments

“Firstly many thanks to everyone involved in organizing and running the Bude residential activity courses for ROC clients, they all had a wonderful time and will have gained greatly from their experiences, everyone from ROC Active (staff and clients) would love to attend a similar activity if that is possible please”
(Neil Parsley, Active Services Manager)

“Thank you for providing a wonderful experience for all those people taking part”
(Denise Walding Acting Deputy Manager, Blantyre Centre)

“I can’t think of any way to improve the course we did with you.  I was supported to organise the course for the learners and they all had a wonderful time and feel that they learnt a lot. Thank you so much from the staff and learners at LSBF”
(Carly Jarvis, ROC LSBF)
